MMK Group: leadership in the coated rental segment and customer focus
In 2020, MMK Group retained its position as the largest supplier of galvanized and coated metal products to the Russian market. The company attaches key importance to the development of customer orientation and digital services.
This was told by the head of the Commercial Department of MMK-Lysvensky Metallurgical Plant LLC (part of the MMK Group) Sergey Egorov, speaking at the 16th International Conference "Galvanized and Painted Rolled Products: Production and Consumption Trends", which opened in Moscow.
According to him, the markets of galvanized and polymer-coated rolled products in 2020 faced a situation of high uncertainty and volatility. At the same time, after a noticeable decline, as demand came out of lockdown, it began to recover at a rapid pace and at the end of the year these markets even showed an increase, the main driver of which was an increase in consumption from construction. One of the main market trends in this segment is the continuation of the import substitution process.
MMK Group is Russia's largest supplier of galvanized rolled products. In 2020, the company sold 1.2 million tons of galvanized rolled products (about 30% of the total consumption in the country). The main direction of implementation is still the domestic market, and the key sectors of consumption are traditionally construction, metal trading and SMC, as well as the automotive industry.In 2020, MMK Group also sold 536 thousand tons of painted rolled products on the Russian and CIS markets, of which 491 thousand tons fell on the domestic market.
The company is the largest supplier of these products. Basically, rolled products with a polymer coating are profiled and used as a lining for the production of metal tiles, profiled flooring and sandwich panels.
Sales of import-substituting PrinTech-type rolled products with decorative polymer coating, often imitating natural materials, are growing especially fast. MMK Group's sales volumes of such products manufactured at MMK-LMZ facilities under its own SteelArt brand have almost tripled since 2017 and exceeded 20 thousand tons in 2020.
The development of customer orientation for MMK is one of the key elements of increasing competitiveness. Therefore, in addition to improving the quality and expanding the range, the company pays great attention to the delivery of products in precisely specified terms, as well as improving customer convenience. Among the key topics of discussion are the balance of production and consumption of rolled products with coatings; pricing and marketing policy of manufacturers of galvanized and painted steel; new investment projects, as well as import and export of galvanized and painted steels on the Russian market.
